Weather crisis showed Turkish authorities' failure amid popular discontent state

Observers pointed out that the recent weather crisis experienced by Turkey has shown a failure of the authorities in the country, and provoked a state of public discontent about the deterioration of the infrastructure in the light of the poor economic performance and the political division in the country.

The heavy rains that have fallen during the weekend flooded streets in Turkish cities and governorates amid a public clamor over the deterioration of the country's infrastructure.

The recent drowning of the streets poses a threat to the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), coinciding with the country's early presidential elections, and the increasing of Turkish voters’ complaining towards the authorities’ failure to tackle the infrastructure problem as Turkey witnessed similar drowning accidents in May.

On May 5, the Turkish capital Ankara reported torrential rains that left six injured and flooded the streets of the city. While the mayor of the capital Mustafa Touna tried to minimize the incident saying, "This phenomenon happens once every 500 years."

The failure of the authorities to test the weather and its implications for agriculture in Turkey comes in the light of the poor performance of economy due to the sharp decline of the Turkish lira and increasing fears of worsening the situation under the political division in the country.

Erdogan's critics say that his party has accumulated long years of power and entered into ideological and regional mazes that have caused scourge to the country.
