The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the killing of 6 civilians, including 2 children, and the injury of more than 30 others as a result of the violent shelling of 2 towns in the northwestern village of Dara.

South of Syria, which includes the cities of Dara, Qenitra and Suwayda, has a cease-fire declared by Moscow with Washington and Oman since July, after the region was included in the Astana talks sponsored by Russia, Iran and Turkey as one of the 4 areas of reducing the escalation in Syria.

The director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights Rami Abdul Rahman said that "this outcome is the highest" since the declaration of a cease-fire in the area.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in a television interview published by the Syrian news agency (SANA) that if the political solution fails, the southern regions of Syria will be restored by force.

After a statement by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the United States warned the Syrian authorities against launching a military attack on the area of reducing the escalation in the south-west, the US foreign office spokesman Heather Nauert said in a statement on Thursday night. "We reiterate that the United States will take strict and appropriate measures in response to government violations."

This is the second American warning of its kind in three weeks. It comes two days after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said in a television interview on Wednesday that there was "continuing contact between the Russians, Americans and Israelis" about the south.
