Hodeidah port, home to some 600,000 people, is the main gateway to aid. But the Arab alliance sees it as the starting point for military operations by the Houthis on ships in the Red Sea and for the smuggling of rockets fired at Saudi Arabia.

After a two-hour closed-door session of the UN Security Council, the Russian ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, whose country holds the council's monthly presidency, said the 15 members of the council were "united in their deep concern about the risks related to the humanitarian situation". in Hodeidah.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Khalid al-Yamani told in a news conference in New York "We are not approaching the port and we do not intend to destroy the infrastructure."

He added  "We are in an area close to the airport and not from the port, the port is completely out of operations today."
