Agriculture Directorate in al-Tabqa estimated wheat yield at 8,000 tons

The farmers in the north-west countryside of al-Tabqa area started harvesting the wheat crop that occupies about 760,700 hectors of the agricultural lands in the area.

The wheat crop is classified into two types according to the agricultural method; rain-fed type that occupies 70,000 hectors and irrigated one that occupies 6700 hectors, and the yield was somewhat lower than the previous years, especially the lands that depend in irrigation on the Euphrates River that was cut off by Turkey since about 5 months which is the period when wheat farmers start to irritate their crops.

The co-chair of the Agriculture Directorate in al-Tabqa Khaled al-Asker said, "We expect to receive 8,000 tons of wheat crops including soft and hard species which occupy about 80% of the season, and they would be stored within the location of the mineral silos in al-Sulhubiya in al-Tabqa north-east countryside."

After studying the mechanism of work and receiving the season, the price of a kilogram of wheat was determined at 175 Syrian pounds, and the prices vary by 1 ° C for each of the three grades in the grain type evaluation.

Al-Asker noted, "The heavy rains that the area witnessed over the past few weeks have affected negatively large spaces of agricultural lands, but the proportion of damage that inflicted to the crop was minor and relative."

In a related context, the farmer Sa’d Eddin who is a farmer from the countryside of al-Jarniya town assured, "Our crop was partially damaged and even more than partial due to the floods caused by heavy rains and we thank God anyway, we do not have any leverage. We work and harvest every year."

Al-Asker pointed out that the Agriculture Directorate has insured burlap sacks which will be sold to the farmers for the process of packing and transporting at a price of 650 Syrian pounds per sack whose capacity is 110 kg. The directorate will buy these sacks from the farmer after finishing marketing their crop at 600 S.P.

It is worth mentioning that 3 centers were allocated to receive the wheat crop this year, and they are distributed in the eastern countryside of al-Tabqa city and the countryside of al-Raqqa. The centers are: al-Sulhubiya center in the north-east of al-Tabqa, Kebesh center in the south-east countryside of al-Raqqa and Bader center in the western countryside of al-Raqqa.
