Zelenskyy: United States wants to end war before Summer

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the United States wants Russia and Ukraine to find a solution to end the war before the summer.

In remarks to journalists released by his office today, Zelenskyy said that the United States had proposed holding a new round of talks between Ukraine and Russia in Miami within a week, and that Kyiv had agreed to the proposal.

A previous round of negotiations mediated by the United States was held in Abu Dhabi last week, but yielded no significant progress.

In a related development, Kyiv endorsed a call for a ceasefire during the Winter Olympic Games scheduled to take place from 6 to 22 February in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, in response to appeals by Italy and Pope Leo of the Vatican to advance peace efforts.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that his country also supports the United Nations resolution calling for a global truce, adding that the ball is now in Moscow’s court to clarify its position.

He stressed that accepting the truce could pave the way for broader peace negotiations, while any Russian rejection would reflect an obstructive stance toward efforts to end the war.
