Yazidis organize aid campaigns to support IDPs

The Yazidi community in Syria and Iraq continues to face the threat of genocide, particularly following a series of attacks targeting them from the occupation of Afrin by Turkish-backed mercenaries to assaults in the neighborhoods of Aleppo, Raqqa, and Tabqa. Despite displacement, Yazidis remain committed to preserving their cultural identity, Kurdish ethnicity, and Yazidi faith.

Following the announcement of the general mobilization campaign by the Autonomous Administration, the Yazidi community joined the initiative and formed committees in Europe to support displaced people from Afrin and Aleppo neighborhoods, in cooperation with the Yazidi House in the Jazira canton. The Yazidi House in Tirbespî and Afrin provided financial assistance and food baskets to displaced families, including Yazidi households that were forced to flee their homes.

The co-chair of the Yazidi House in Afrin, Maryam Jando, confirmed that the Yazidi community remains under threat of genocide, referring to the Sinjar massacres and attacks by mercenaries on Afrin. She added that they had joined the general mobilization campaign and taken responsibility for providing aid to all components of North and East Syria, in coordination with Yazidi committees in Europe, through financial and food support and by caring for displaced families residing in schools in the Jazira canton.

She explained that around 50 displaced Yazidi families are currently living in the city of Tirbespî, in a journey of resilience aimed at preserving identity and maintaining hope of returning to their original homes. She also called on the international community to pressure the interim government and ensure the implementation of the agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces, in order to enable a dignified return for the people of Afrin.
