YPJ: July 19 Revolution is revolution of unity for women and peoples

On the occasion of the 13th anniversary of the July 19 Revolution (2012), the General Command of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ) published a statement on its official website, commemorating the martyrs of the revolution and congratulating Leader Abdullah Ocalan, all the women and people of Kurdistan, and the world.

The statement praised the struggle of Kurdish women in the 21st century and their leadership of the July 19 Revolution, under the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom." It noted the cries of the struggling and rebellious women who shattered the walls of ISIS's jihadist mentality, which became a frontier for freedom for all women and peoples.

The statement explained that the Women's Protection Units are always ready to illuminate the path for women and peoples and liberate them from the attacks of nationalist, gender, and religious fanaticism in particular.

The statement added: "The July 19 Revolution is of great significance not only in the history of the Kurdish people, but also in the history of the Arab, Armenian, Syriac, Alawite, and Druze peoples. Syria can preserve its historical mosaic through the diversity of its people.

The capitalist system has become a Zeus, seeking to maintain its existence and continuity by eating human brains. This system is increasingly working to deepen and perpetuate the chaos in the Middle East. The July 19 Revolution, led by women, has become a model for a democratic solution in the Middle East and the world with a democratic modernity. With the Rojava Kurdistan Revolution, a common ideology was established for Kurdish women and all women in the region.

The resistance in Kobani, led by Arin and Kalhat, reached its peak. In the battle of Kobani, women, youth, and even the elderly from the four corners of Kurdistan, along with internationalists from around the world, flocked to the revolutionary square, supporting and rallying around the revolution for humanity.

ISIS, which launched attacks on all human values with its jihadist mentality, suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of this resistance, which, through the unity of women and peoples, became a stronghold of resistance in the four parts of Kurdistan and throughout the world. With this defeat, we can say that socialism triumphed over the capitalist system.

The Women's Protection Units (YPJ) successfully introduced the struggle of Kurdish women to the world during the revolution in NE Syria. They demonstrated once again to the world the importance of the free will and thought of women, and the importance of legitimate defense and organization through the role they assumed.

The Women's Protection Units were sometimes a fighting force like Adula in the Şengal Mountains, becoming the voice of the Yazidi women's cries. Sometimes, in Raqqa, they became the voice of women's freedom, tearing off their black veils and throwing them in the face of ISIS. Sometimes, they stood alongside the elderly on the front lines. Sometimes, they stood alongside mothers in the battlefields. Sometimes, they stood alongside children, resisting tanks and artillery shells.

We, the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), are comrades of martyrs such as Sulafa Afrin, Avesta Khabur, Susun Berhat, Jiyan Tolhildan, Jinda Tal Tamr, Şervin Serdar, Roj Khabur, and Şilan Qamishlo Warşin. We have a great legacy of martyrs, and as the Women's Protection Units, we bear the full responsibility for the liberation of all women of all nations. We affirm our commitment to freedom in order to protect the values of the peoples of the region and the world.

We have reached these days with great sacrifices, but great threats still exist for the women and peoples of the region, driven by the ideology of jihadist mercenaries. For this reason, we once again call upon all women and peoples, and we say that the solution of a democratic Syria is possible through a joint struggle for freedom.”
