UNRWA temporarily suspends services in Damascus and its countryside due to security tensions

UNRWA has suspended all services in Damascus camps and its surrounding areas due to the deteriorating security situation, stressing that the safety of staff is a priority and that activities will resume when the situation on the ground improves.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced the suspension of all services provided in Palestinian camps in and around Damascus due to the escalating security situation in the area.

In an official statement, the agency said the decision is a precautionary measure to protect its staff and beneficiaries, given the dangerous field conditions in the capital and its surrounding areas.

The agency explained that the suspension includes all services, including sanitation services provided by camp workers, noting that "the safety of individuals is its top priority."

At the end of its statement, it confirmed that it is closely monitoring the situation and will resume its activities once the security threat levels decline and a minimum level of stability returns.

This UN position comes amid the military and security escalation in Sweida, where clashes have resulted in the deaths and injuries of hundreds, including women and children.
