A young woman died from injuries sustained in a landmine explosion in Hasakah countryside, prompting renewed calls for the removal of remnants of war.

A young woman died today from injuries she sustained three days ago when a landmine left over from the war exploded in the village of Kharab al-Zaraʿ in the Jabal Abdul Aziz area of Hasakah countryside.

Calls were renewed for specialized engineering teams to survey villages and roads in the Jabal Abdul Aziz area, remove mines and other remnants of war, and place warning signs in hazardous areas to prevent further casualties among residents.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the deaths of 253 people since the beginning of 2026 as a result of explosions involving objects and munitions left over from the war. They included 149 men, 94 children and 10 women. Another 389 people were injured, including 233 men, 143 children and 14 women.
