Women’s Council of DIC calls for global women's unity

As part of the activities of March 8, the Women’s Council of the Democratic Islam Conference made a statement to public opinion, on the occasion of the approaching International Women’s Day, in its center located in the Al-Khaleej neighborhood in the city of Qamishlo, and it was read by the administrator in the conference’s media office, Jian Abbas.

The statement stated : “We salute all the women activists who waged long struggles in their lives, decades ago, to regain their social, political and economic rights from the men in power. They demanded equality and liberation in society, and they also made tremendous efforts for democratic principles and values, cohesion and brotherhood among peoples in the world.”

The statement praised the struggle and resistance of women around the world against capitalist modernity, denounced the targeting of women entrepreneurs, and recalled women whose names shone in the struggle, such as “Rosa Luxemburg, Sakin Cansiz, Arin Mirkan, and Reyhan Amouda, Yusra, Gina Amini, Zalal Zagros, and Sorkhin Rojhelat.”

The statement called for "building global women's unity at all levels to wage a stronger struggle against the mentality of male dominance and the patriarchal system."

On the same occasion, the Free Women’s Endowment in Syria organized an exhibition of handicrafts at its center in the city of Qamishlo. Eight women from the city participated in the exhibition with their works, which included models, handicrafts for decoration, and fashions woven with wool. The exhibition aims to show the beauty of handicrafts and enhance the talents of women.

The exhibition was attended by dozens of city women and members of civil and service institutions and Kongra Star.

Girkê Legê

In the district of Girkê Legê, Kongra Star also organized an exhibition of handicrafts in the name of the martyr “Frashin Baran” in the building of the Mustafawiya town council in the district.

The martyr, Frashin Baran is the member of the Counter-Terrorism Forces, who was martyred in the crash of the plane in Sulaymaniyah on March 17 of last year.

Dozens of women from the towns of Mustafawiya and Girkê Legê participated in the opening of the exhibition, along with members of civil institutions in the district, wearing their popular costumes that represent the region’s heritage.

The co-chair of the Mustafawiya, Fatima Sheikho, delivered the opening speech of the exhibition, during which she congratulated all the women of the world on the imminent advent of International Women’s Day, the opening ribbon was cut by the mother of the martyr Frashin Baran, Najida Osei, and the exhibition included the region’s heritage tools and costumes. The exhibition activities included a theatrical performance by the “Kurdistan Roses” troupe for children under the title “Women’s Freedom.”

The exhibition activities ended with the presentation of a memorial shield to the family of the martyr Frashin, while chanting the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom.”
