Women's Council in NE Syria urges unity to thwart hostile plans

In a written statement regarding recent developments in Syria and the latest attacks by the Turkish occupation and its mercenaries on the Syrian people, the Women's Council stated:

"Political and military events in the regional and Syrian arenas have escalated dangerously in recent times, creating a catastrophic situation for the safety and security of civilians and the peoples of the region. Following the bloody war in Gaza and the agreement to cease hostilities in Lebanon after months of violence, Syria has seen renewed conflict due to military movements by 'Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham,' an internationally designated terrorist organization. This group has taken control of Aleppo and advanced toward Hama following the withdrawal of Syrian army forces.

Simultaneously, taking advantage of the chaos and security vacuum, factions supported by the Turkish state launched attacks on the areas of Shahba and Tal Rifaat, besieging forcibly displaced residents from Afrin since 2018. These residents settled in these areas and some neighborhoods of Aleppo and its northern countryside following the occupation of Afrin by Turkish forces and affiliated armed factions. This threatens to repeat the tragedy and exposes the Kurdish population to the danger of extermination.

Currently, over 200,000 citizens face a humanitarian disaster targeting their existence, either through annihilation or forced displacement by factions of the so-called 'Syrian National Army,' which controls vast swaths of Syrian territory.

We, the Women's Council in North and East Syria, condemn and denounce the declared war by terrorist organizations against the Syrian people of all components across Syria's geography. We hold the Turkish state fully responsible for its direct intervention in the Syrian crisis from its onset to the present day. Additionally, we hold the Syrian government accountable for failing to fulfill its responsibilities, leaving civilians to face their uncertain fate.

We also denounce the puzzling international silence regarding the events in Syria and call on the international community, the United Nations, and those concerned with the Syrian file to intervene immediately to save all civilians trapped in these catastrophic circumstances. We urge them to pressure the Turkish state to halt its aggressive projects, respect Syrian sovereignty, and return to its natural borders.

We commend the efforts of the Democratic Autonomous Administration in NE Syria in striving to establish security and stability for all peoples of the region, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, Armenians, and others, over more than a decade. We call on our people to rally around the Syrian Democratic Forces, which protect the region from terrorism. We urge all components of our people, especially women, to unite and cooperate to thwart these hostile plans. Furthermore, we call on all Syrian parties to come to the negotiation table and find a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis that ends the suffering of the Syrian people."
