The spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, Brigadier General Miqdad Miri, explained in a press conference that the recent security events in Syria have become the focus of discussion in the Iraqi street. The aim of the conference is to reassure citizens after rumours spread about security threats on the Iraqi border, he said.

Miri said the border with Syria is more secure than Iraq's border with other countries, stressing that "the border is absolutely impenetrable" thanks to military fortifications and forces on the border.

Brigadier General Miri pointed out that the ministry continues to strengthen security measures at the borders to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent any attempt to penetrate that may threaten the stability of the region.
