Women: Leader Abdullah Ocalan supports democratic solutions

Popular demands continue across the North and East Syria region ,particularly by women to end the isolation imposed on leader Abdullah Ocalan and to work toward achieving his physical freedom, within ongoing calls to uphold human rights and justice.

In this context, Shireen Qawas from Raqqa Canton stated: “The freedom of the leader means the freedom of all women. Leader Abdullah Ocalan was among the first thinkers to grant women their true status and fundamental rights, and to help break the constraints imposed by traditional social structures on their role.”

Shireen Qawas explained that women in Syria were marginalized under the former Baath regime, with an absence of an effective role in society. However, she noted that the intellectual training sessions and lectures on the leader’s thought and philosophy regarding women’s liberation received by women in academies across North and East Syria have significantly contributed to raising awareness and strengthening women’s understanding of their true role and the importance of their participation in social and political life.

She added that “the presence of the leader and his thought grants women strength and willpower, and enhances their ability to face life’s challenges,” pointing out that during the period of ISIS occupation, the region witnessed the complete marginalization of women and the loss of their identity and humanitarian and social role. In contrast, the Autonomous Administration restored women’s status and opened the way for their effective participation in various fields of life.

For her part, Amira al-Jum‘a confirmed that the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Öcalan is among the foremost popular demands for the realization of peace in the region.

Amira al-Jum‘a noted that “the achievement of the leader’s physical freedom would positively reflect on the Syrian situation by allowing space for his intellectual role in supporting democratic solutions, enhancing dialogue among the components of Syrian society, and contributing to the building of a decentralized Syria based on justice and participation. His freedom constitutes a fundamental step on the path toward peace and stability.”

In turn, Zahra al-Hassan stressed that women of Raqqa Canton are calling for the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan as a thinker who put forward the principle of peace and coexistence among peoples, and who emphasized in his theses that the liberation of women constitutes the essential foundation for the liberation of society as a whole.

She added that no genuine democratic system can be established without guaranteeing women’s rights and freedoms, and that the demand for the leader’s freedom is not only humanitarian and intellectual in nature, but also carries a political dimension represented by calling for resolving Middle Eastern issues through dialogue rather than conflict, and opening new horizons for the peace process and the achievement of stability in the region.
