Violence surges in Syria, leaving 147 dead

Multiple cities in Syria, including Latakia and Tartus, have seen intense fighting over the past two days, resulting in more than 147 casualties. Among the dead are civilians who were reportedly executed on the ground.

 According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the casualties include 78 fatalities, comprising 37 personnel from the Ministries of Defense and Interior, 34 former regime fighters, and 7 civilians. Dozens have also been wounded, with reports of missing persons and prisoners on both sides.

 In response, the Damascus authorities have deployed significant military reinforcements, expanding their presence in Latakia, Tartus, and surrounding areas. This escalation has fueled further tensions, with both parties blaming each other for committing “massacres” against civilians.

 The government frames its operations as targeting “remnants of the former regime,” while armed groups claim they are resisting the current authorities and defending their territories.

 Local reports and eyewitness accounts indicate widespread destruction, with homes set ablaze and civilian populations suffering significant harm. Social media has been flooded with images and videos documenting the devastation and civilian casualties, intensifying the blame game between the conflicting sides.

 So far, neither party has issued an official statement confirming the exact death toll or details of ongoing military operations, while accusations of human rights violations continue.

Despite the rising death toll, no efforts toward a ceasefire have been initiated, raising concerns about worsening humanitarian conditions and a prolonged cycle of violence.

 Meanwhile, in NE Syria, Turkish military forces have intensified their bombardment, targeting areas around Tishrin Dam, the outskirts of Sirrin, rural Kobani, rural Tal Abyad, and Ain Issa.
