US House of Representatives holds hearing on future of Syria

The US House Foreign Affairs Committee is holding an official hearing today to discuss the future of Syria, with the participation of experts and specialists on Syrian affairs, the Middle East, and religious freedom.

The US House of Representatives is convening an official, open hearing today to examine Syria’s future and US policy in the post-Bashar al-Assad phase.

The session is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. Washington time (6:00 p.m. Damascus time) in Room 2172 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

The hearing is titled: “Syria at a Crossroads: Challenges for US Policy After Assad.” It brings together a number of senior experts, diplomats, and researchers specializing in Syrian affairs, the Middle East, and religious freedom.

Among the witnesses scheduled to testify are former US Ambassador James Jeffrey, now a fellow at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy; Andrew Tabler, senior fellow at the same institute; Nadine Maenza, former Chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom; and Dr. Mara Karlin, Professor of Practice at Johns Hopkins University and visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution.
