U.S. funds expansion of Israel’s “Iron Dome” production

Media reports have revealed that the United States is financing the expansion of production for Israel’s “Iron Dome” system in cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Defense, under a contract exceeding $5 billion. The move aims to replenish the Israeli army’s stockpiles, which were depleted during clashes with Hezbollah and Palestinian factions.

The website Military Watch reported that the Israeli Ministry of Defense has outlined plans to ramp up serial production of the short-range “Iron Dome” air defense system. It noted that Tel Aviv has signed a multi-billion-dollar contract with the defense company Rafael to expand Iron Dome production, adding that the contract will be fully funded through the U.S. military aid package totaling $8.7 billion.

This financial support will be used to replenish the Israeli army’s inventory, which was drained during confrontations with Hezbollah and armed Palestinian groups.

According to the report, the U.S. package allocated $5.2 billion for air and missile defense systems, including long-range systems such as David’s Sling, the Barak system, and the short-range Iron Dome.

The report added that American support was not limited to funding Israel’s defensive efforts. Washington also deployed its own defense systems including the THAAD system and the Aegis naval system to protect Israel during its war with Iran.

Both American and Israeli air defense systems suffered significant losses during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran last June.
