Despite ongoing clashes in Sweida, transitional government declares ceasefire

As clashes continue in various locations in the city of Sweida and its countryside, the transitional government declared an immediate ceasefire throughout the country, including in Sweida Governorate, which has witnessed bloody clashes and sporadic attacks in recent days.

The transitional government's statement stated that this decision comes in light of "the delicate circumstances the country is experiencing, and out of a desire to spare the bloodshed of Syrians and preserve the unity of Syrian territory and its societal peace." It called on all parties, without exception, to fully commit to the cessation of hostilities and ensure unhindered access to humanitarian aid.

For its part, the Spiritual Presidency of the Druze Community announced its readiness to cooperate in achieving a ceasefire and de-escalation. Its statement read: "We extend our hand to every honorable person to end the current clashes and achieve a ceasefire, and to resort to the voice of reason, wisdom, and humanity, not weapons and chaos."

The spiritual leadership affirmed that the Ma'roufi community "has never been advocates of division or strife," emphasizing that "Jabal al-Arab has been and continues to be a refuge for the oppressed and the fearful."
