United States: No change in our policy towards Syria

A US State Department official confirmed that his country's policy towards Syria has not changed, reiterating Washington's condemnation of the escalating violence in Sweida and calling for an immediate investigation into human rights violations and accountability for those responsible. He also stressed the need for all parties to de-escalate and engage in serious dialogue to achieve a ceasefire.

A US State Department official told Reuters that US policy towards Syria has not changed, stressing that Washington strongly condemns the violence taking place in Sweida Governorate.

The official added that the United States calls on the transitional government in Syria to investigate all reports of human rights violations and hold those responsible accountable.

He also stressed the need for all parties to de-escalate and engage in serious dialogue with the aim of achieving a lasting ceasefire in the country.

Yesterday, Israel launched heavy airstrikes on Damascus, targeting the Defense Ministry headquarters and areas near the presidential palace in the Syrian capital, following an escalation of violence in the southern province of Sweida. Clashes have erupted in Sweida since July 13 between local armed factions from Sweida and forces affiliated with the transitional government in Syria, resulting in hundreds of deaths.
