On Friday, the United Nations Human Rights committee said in a report during its review of Iran’s human rights record that Iran must amend or abolish laws and policies that criminalize non-compliance with the hijab.

The committee called on Iran to dissolve the so-called Iranian “moral police,” expressing its concern about the authorities’ treatment of women and girls in the country.

The report stressed the need for Tehran to adopt a comprehensive law that criminalizes all forms of violence against women and girls, and addresses domestic violence and crimes committed under the pretext of so-called “honor.”
