The Mayor of Ankara announced that Turkish authorities detained three CHP mayors earlier this morning.

Mansur Yavaş wrote on X: “Our mayors Zeydan Karalar in Adana, Muhittin Böcek in Antalya, and Abdurrahman Tutdere in Adıyaman have been detained.”

These arrests are the latest in a series of investigations targeting the CHP, as President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's government intensifies its pressure on the party, which achieved a sweeping victory over the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the 2024 local elections.

In his post, the Mayor of Ankara wrote: “In a system where the law yields and sways according to politics, and justice is applied to one group and ignored for another, no one should expect us to trust in the rule of law or believe in justice.” He added, “We will not submit to injustice, lawlessness, or political maneuvers.”

Karalar has served as Mayor of Adana since 2019, while Tutdere assumed office in Adıyaman in March 2024.
