Three women killed in Turkey in one day

Three women were killed in Turkey in two separate incidents in Ankara and Istanbul, allegedly by members of their families, amid warnings of escalating domestic violence and calls for increased protection for women.

Turkey witnessed three horrific murders of women by family members in a single day, amid growing warnings from human rights organizations about escalating domestic violence and continued impunity.

In the Sincan district of Ankara, a retired non-commissioned officer shot his wife and two daughters inside their home following a domestic dispute that escalated into armed violence. The wife and one daughter died instantly, while the other daughter was hospitalized in critical condition.

In a separate incident in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul, a man shot his mother inside her home, killing her immediately before being apprehended by police.

These crimes come at a time when human rights reports indicate an alarming rise in violence against women in Turkey, with many women being killed by their partners or relatives. There are increasing calls for stricter protection measures and the activation of prevention and support mechanisms for women at risk.
