National figure Mohammad Abdo passes away

Abdo died this morning in the city of Aleppo. He was originally from the village of Juwayq in the Afrin region and had battled a long illness, leaving behind a legacy of activism, dedication, and sacrifice.

The late Abdo was a prominent national and political figure within the Kurdish movement. He began his political activity in the 1970s as a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, before leaving the party following the announcement of what is known as “Ashbatāl” in southern Kurdistan. In the mid-1980s, he continued his political and national struggle within the ranks of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, where he met leader Abdullah Ocalan in Lebanon.

Mohammad Abdo devoted much of his life to defending national causes, exemplifying commitment and activism. He is also the father of a fighter within the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, highlighting his deep familial and national ties to the cause.

His body is scheduled to be laid to rest in the cemetery of Juwayq village in Afrin, with mourning ceremonies to be held in the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood of Aleppo.
