Thousands from Rojava head to Newroz celebration squares

Since the early morning hours, thousands from the city of Hasakah headed to the Eastern Dam site, while residents of the cities of Darbasiyah and Tal Tamr went to the village of Golbistan to participate in the Newroz celebration, which is being held this year under the slogan: “Let us make Newroz a festival for the freedom of Leader Apo and the democratic unity of the Kurds.”

Participants wore traditional Kurdish clothing and raised Kurdish flags and symbols, along with the flags of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Internal Security Forces. The Eastern Dam square in Hasakah and the square of Golbistan village in Darbasiyah were decorated with flags and banners for the occasion, in addition to pictures of leader Abdullah Ocalan and a number of Kurdish fighters.

Pictures of the martyrs of Sheikh Maqsoud resistance were also hung on the celebration platforms. They were martyred in January of this year while confronting attacks by factions of the Syrian Interim Government. The celebration also carried this year’s Newroz slogan: “Let us make Newroz a festival for the freedom of Leader Apo and the national unity of the Kurds.”

The celebration activities at both locations are scheduled to begin with lighting the Newroz flame at ten in the morning, while the Internal Security Forces will provide the necessary protection for residents at the celebration sites and on the roads leading to them.

In the same context, residents of the Qamishlo region will head to the 12 March Stadium, residents of Tirbespiyê to the village of Dirêjîk, and residents of Amuda to the village of Cagir Bazar to celebrate the occasion, with activities there set to begin at eleven in the morning.

It is worth noting that these celebrations were scheduled to be held on 21 March, but were postponed due to heavy rainfall.
