Syrian National Student Union calls for student protection, condemns threats

The union issued an official statement today, which was read by its spokesperson, Jinda Ahmad, at the College of Science and Technology in the city of Qamishlo.

The statement highlighted the growing attacks targeting students, including Alawites, Druze, and Kurds, through sectarian incitement, physical assaults, security harassment, and forced displacement, particularly in educational institutions such as the Mezzeh University City and the Syrian Private University.

The union strongly condemned these attacks, describing them as being supported by foreign powers, particularly Turkey, with the aim of undermining national unity and stirring discord within Syrian society. The statement emphasized the need for universities to remain safe spaces for all and denounced the threats that forced Druze students to leave their university housing.

The statement also criticized the silence of the Damascus authority regarding these violations and their failure to take action to protect the students, stating that such negligence contributes to the disintegration of the social fabric.

The union called on the authorities to take urgent measures to ensure student safety and held Turkey responsible for supporting extremist groups. It also rejected any project that marginalizes any Syrian component, asserting that diversity is a cornerstone of national identity.

In conclusion, the union stressed that these acts of targeting students are violations of the constitution and international charters. It called on universities and the Ministry of Higher Education to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities, affirming that Syria belongs to all, and its students will continue their journey toward knowledge and freedom.
