Syrian National Bloc condemns Israeli incursion, transitional govt. inaction

The Bloc issued a statement regarding the incursion of Israeli forces into Syrian territory.

It explained: “In light of the dangerous development witnessed in the town of Beit Jinn in rural Damascus, following the incursion of a patrol belonging to the Israeli occupation forces into Syrian territory, accompanied by assaults and direct threats against the town’s residents, which resulted in martyrs and wounded, the Syrian National Democratic Bloc condemns this blatant breach of Syrian sovereignty and the resulting massacre. It warns against Israel’s continued expansion of its assaults and occupation of parts of Syrian land, in violation of international law and UN resolutions.”

It added: “The Bloc values the courage of the residents and their determination to protect their homes and land in the face of the negligence and abandonment by the de facto authorities, who are supposed to carry out their duty to defend Syrians against these recurring Israeli attacks, amid the absence of an international deterrent system that would compel the occupation to halt its violations.”

The Bloc pointed out that: “Israel is an occupying power that repeatedly violates Syrian sovereignty and works to impose new realities on the ground, both in the Golan and in border areas, posing a continuous threat to the security of Syrians and the stability of the region.”

Through the statement, the Bloc called on the Security Council and the international community to: “hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for its repeated violations of Syrian territory and to uphold the obligations set out in the UN Charter, particularly those related to the sovereignty of states and the integrity of their borders.”

It also urged a clear international position that compels Israel to comply with international law and puts an end to its policy of incursions, shelling, expansion, and assaults that constitute an ongoing violation of the rights of Syrians and the sovereignty of their state.

Meanwhile, 15 people were killed and 20 others wounded, including women and children, in clashes and Israeli shelling on the town of Beit Jinn in rural Damascus, after an Israeli patrol came under attack in which six soldiers were injured, according to Israeli media.
