Arab newspapers published over the past week touched on the clashes on the Syrian-Jordanian border, in addition to the Iraqi local elections, and the situation in Gaza.

Regarding the Iraqi issue, Al-Arab newspaper indicated that voters in Iraq went to the polls to cast their votes in the provincial council elections for the first time since 2013, amid expectations of a low turnout, especially after the Sadrist movement announced a boycott of the elections.

According to Winthrop Rodgers, an American journalist residing in the Southern Kurdistan region, “The gradual decline in the participation rate in each session indicates the frustration of the Iraqi people with the political system that was imposed on them two decades ago and continues to betray their basic interests.”

Field escalation... and intense international efforts to calm the situation

Regarding the developments in Gaza, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper indicated that the Gaza war witnessed a field escalation that preceded the intense international efforts to agree on a new humanitarian truce, as the Israeli army announced that it had taken control of the al-Shuja’iya neighborhood in battles described as the most ferocious and ferocious.
