Syrian Democratic Accord holds countries involved in Syria responsible for massacres

Since January 6, the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafieh, and Bani Zaid in the city of Aleppo have been subjected to systematic shelling and ethnic attacks by mercenaries of the interim government affiliated with the Turkish occupying state. These attacks targeted residents of the neighborhoods, resulting in numerous massacres and violations, as well as the forced displacement of Kurds from their homes, amid international silence.

In this context, Dr. Thamer Sheikho, a senior member of the Syrian Democratic Accord Party, paid tribute to the souls of the martyrs of the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in Aleppo and in North and East Syria. He said the attacks on these neighborhoods were clearly aimed at civilians, denouncing the international and regional silence over what happened in these two small neighborhoods of Aleppo.

Sheikho condemned, during his remarks, the violations committed against civilians and their forced displacement, considering this an insult to all Syrians. He held the intervening states that play a pivotal role in the Syrian file responsible for these massacres.

He added, “The government that was formed last year in Damascus has so far failed to impose its control over the elements and factions within it, as they are affiliated with regional states present in the area.”

He stressed the importance of Syrian–Syrian dialogue and the national accord aspired to by Syrians to achieve peace for all Syrians, and to reach consensus among all Syrian sects and components.

Concluding his remarks, Dr. Thamer Sheikho said, “We do not wish for a civil war in Syria. Syrians are exhausted from war, destruction, displacement, and violations. We hope for Syria and for all Syrians, with all their components, sects, and denominations, to sit together, as this is the only gateway to stability.”
