This morning's newspapers addressed the stalemate in the US-Iranian negotiations.

Iranian Negotiations Isolate the Gulf and Israel

Alsharq Al-Awsat newspaper highlighted the stalemate in negotiations between the United States and Iran, despite optimistic statements. The newspaper noted that the two sides have made no significant progress and have not even agreed on the bare minimum of substantive points, opening the door to dangerous escalation.

It warned that the failure of negotiations, as past experience has shown, could lead to an explosion and a new wave of violence. If negotiations do not achieve a real breakthrough this summer, tensions will escalate, US sanctions will increase, an Israeli attack may become more likely, and the role of Iranian proxies in the region will escalate.

The newspaper held Tehran responsible for pursuing a negotiating strategy that reproduces previous mistakes by exploiting the differences between Washington and Tel Aviv without taking into account the concerns of the regional neighborhood. It warned that "continuing this approach could lead to another breakdown in negotiations, similar to what occurred after the Trump administration withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018."
