Snowfall exacerbates suffering of IDPs in Newroz Camp

Displaced people from Afrin, al-Shahba, Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), and Girê Spî (Tal Abyad) residing in Newroz Camp in the city of Dêrik are facing a severe cold wave accompanied by continuous rainfall and snowfall, worsening their suffering and increasing fears of the tents sheltering them collapsing.

The suffering of the displaced from Afrin, al-Shahba, Sere Kaniye, and Girê Spî living in Newroz Camp in the city of Dêrik, in al-Jazira Canton, continues amid an intense cold wave, with growing fears that the tents could collapse on their inhabitants.

ANHA agency monitored the conditions of the displaced in the camp this morning, as they face harsh humanitarian circumstances due to continuous rainfall and snowfall over the past several days.

Residents are struggling with extremely low temperatures, rainwater leaking into the tents, and the accumulation of snow on their roofs, all of which increase the risk of tent collapse.

Meanwhile, emergency response teams operating inside the camp continue their rounds to check on the conditions of the displaced and to provide water and heating supplies, in an effort to alleviate the scale of the humanitarian suffering endured by the camp’s residents.
