Serê Kaniyê Displacement Committee launches events on 6th anniversary of occupation

Stemming from its moral and legal responsibility toward the cause of those forcibly displaced from the city of Serê Kaniyê/Ras al-Ain and its countryside, and coinciding with the sixth anniversary of the occupation and the grave human rights violations that accompanied it, the Serê Kaniyê Displacement Committee announced the launch of a series of human rights and community activities under the slogan: “Six Years of Forced Displacement, and Safe Return is a Legitimate Right.”

According to the Committee, the activities aim to remind both the local and international community of their legal and moral responsibility toward the suffering of tens of thousands of displaced civilians, and to reaffirm that safe and voluntary return is an inherent right that does not expire with time, guaranteed by international humanitarian law and human rights conventions.

Schedule of Activities:

October 4–5: Petition campaign for displaced persons in camps and cities (Washo Kani Camp – Serê Kaniyê Camp – al-Arisha Camp / Hasakah city center).

October 6: Mass protest in front of the United Nations headquarters in Qamishlo, with the reading and submission of an official letter.

October 7: Issuance of a statement and announcement of the toll of violations over six years.

October 8: Dialogue session on the issue of occupied Serê Kaniyê, held in Hasakah city.

October 9: Visits to official bodies and launch of a media campaign through a hashtag.

The Committee emphasized that these events are part of its efforts to unify the displaced, highlight their suffering to public opinion, and rally international support to achieve justice and ensure their right to safe return to their homes.
