Security incidents rock Homs over 2 days, raise public concerns

Security incidents in Homs have escalated over the past two days. They included an armed attack on the village of Marighan in eastern Homs countryside, clashes in the al-Waer neighborhood of Homs city, as well as shootings targeting civilians, amid popular calls to strengthen security and pursue those involved.

ANHA correspondent in the governorate reported that armed men attacked the village of Marighan, affiliated with al-Makhrem subdistrict, yesterday, opening fire randomly. This resulted in the injury of citizen Mohammed Ma’mo (55 years old), while his wife was assaulted. The attackers also reportedly chanted slogans described by residents as sectarian in nature, according to local accounts, which indicated that the incident followed the distribution of food on the occasion of Ashura.

Sources told ANHA correspondent that internal security forces affiliated with the Interior Ministry of the interim government carried out arrest operations in the village, detaining several young men without apprehending the attackers. They also reported that some detainees were subjected to mistreatment, calling for an investigation and accountability for those responsible.

In a separate incident, the al-Waer neighborhood of Homs city witnessed clashes today between internal security personnel and armed men during a security operation targeting a cell suspected of involvement in theft crimes.

According to initial information, the clashes resulted in the injury of three internal security members, while the outcome of the operation has not yet been officially announced.

Additionally, unidentified armed men traveling in a black “Jeep” vehicle opened fire on citizen Abdulaziz al-Ayfir while he was with his wife and two children on Zaidal Road in Homs city, opposite the former Iron Institution in the al-Arman neighborhood of Homs, on Thursday evening. He sustained serious injuries, and his wife suffered varying injuries, while the two children were unharmed.

These incidents come amid repeated acts of violence and gunfire in Homs Governorate, as residents continue to call on the relevant authorities to take more effective measures to control security and protect civilians.
