SDC holds Damascus responsible for worsening situation, military escalation

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) expressed deep concern over the escalating military tensions in the Damascus countryside, holding the Damascus authorities fully responsible for the deterioration of the situation.

In a statement, the Council condemned what it described as “acts of killing, terror, hate speech, and sectarian incitement.” It considered that the continued security-based approach and excessive use of force threaten to drag the country into further chaos and collapse and deepen the social rift among the Syrian people.

The statement emphasized that this escalation paves the way for further foreign interventions targeting Syria’s unity and stability. It called for restoring security, halting hostile actions, and eliminating the sources of sedition and sectarian provocation.

SDC also called for the convening of a comprehensive national conference that includes all Syrian components, in order to redirect the political process and draft a modern democratic constitution that reflects the aspirations of the Syrian people, preserves their dignity and rights, and lays the foundation for a state of citizenship and justice.
