Roads leading to Serê Kaniyê near reopening

Mine clearance operations and the removal of explosive remnants of war are continuing along the main roads leading to the city of Serê Kaniyê, as part of efforts to secure the area, reopen key transport routes, and facilitate the safe return of residents to their home areas.

Speaking to ANHA agency, the Operations Director of Reacho, an organisation operating in the countryside of Zarkan, said that mine clearance on the Darbasiyah–Serê Kaniyê road has entered its final stages. He noted that the organisation's teams have so far cleared approximately 80% of the route.

He added that the work is progressing according to schedule and is expected to be completed either later this week or, at the latest, early next week, after which the road will be fully safe for civilian traffic.

Meanwhile, mine clearance operations are also continuing on the Tell Tamer–Serê Kaniyê road. The specialist demining organisation MAG, in cooperation with engineering teams from the 60th Division, is carrying out clearance operations using armoured engineering vehicles to remove landmines and explosive remnants of war, while securing the road and the surrounding villages.

The operations form part of broader efforts to reopen the main roads leading to Serê Kaniyê, facilitating civilian movement, enhancing public safety, and creating the conditions necessary for residents to return to their communities.
