Qarmous: we’re in important phase, we’ll expand activities

Ahmed Qarmous, the Co-Chair of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), who was re-elected to the co-presidency during the emergency conference of the KNK held in the city of Venlo, the Netherlands, with the participation of 300 delegates from the four parts of Kurdistan—spoke to the Firat News Agency (ANF) about the process being led by Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

He clarified that despite the instability in the region, the Kurds are fulfilling their duties and responsibilities through their organizational structure. He said:  “The unity of the Kurds is extremely important in such a period. We are facing a new strategy to protect the values and achievements of the Kurdish people. Accordingly, the role and tasks of the Kurdistan National Congress are increasing both at home and on the international stage. This is the responsibility of the newly elected leadership.”

Qarmous recalled Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call for “peace and democratic society,” issued on February 27, and stated that this call was shared with the public. He said:  “We know that there is an ongoing process between the Kurds and the Turks. This process will influence the other parts of Kurdistan, as it will open the way for those parts to gain their rightful status. The Kurdistan National Congress can play an important role in creating these conditions.”

Qarmous emphasized that Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s call is very important for the KNK, granting them a major task and responsibility. He said:  “The role and mission of the Kurdistan National Congress are to build political and social unity across the four parts of Kurdistan. A joint strategy should have been evaluated and adopted. If we demand this stance from the international public, we will be able to achieve real and serious accomplishments. During this period, we will work sincerely to achieve Kurdish national unity.”
