PYD: Blurring Leader Ocalan's image is unethical practice

The PYD issued a statement regarding the blurring of Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s image by a television channel broadcasting from Hawler during one of its programs.

The statement said: “At a time when policies hostile to the will and existence of the Kurdish people are escalating, and their achievements are being repeatedly targeted by their enemies, with unified attempts continuing to confront the Kurdish people and erase their identity and historical existence through various means aimed at undermining efforts to achieve Kurdish unity and the aspirations of the Kurdish people; the calls of Leader Abdullah Ocalan for Kurdish unity come to emphasize the need to develop unified strategies to protect the Kurdish people, safeguard their rights, and preserve their achievements, in light of ongoing regional and international transformations.

At the same time, recent developments have witnessed systematic media attacks targeting national symbols, led by parties hostile to the Kurdish people through centrally managed campaigns using multiple platforms.

The latest of these was carried out by the Kurdish channel AVA, which broadcasts from Hawler, by blurring the image of Leader Abdullah Ocalan during one of its programs. This is considered an unethical practice that can only be understood within the context of these organized hostile campaigns. Such provocative practices and the targeting of national symbols are evidence of the involvement of some media outlets in policies hostile to the will of the Kurdish people.

Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who represents the will of millions of Kurds, continues his resistance and struggle in Imrali prison for the cause of his people and their freedom. His thought has become a path toward freedom and peace for all peoples struggling for democracy.

We in the Democratic Union Party condemn this unethical and unpatriotic act by this channel and call on it to issue an official apology to the Kurdish people for its actions.

We affirm that these attacks and campaigns will only strengthen the Kurdish people’s attachment to Leader Apo and his ideas, and they will not be able to obscure the light of freedom emerging from his thoughts. These policies will fail, and Kurdish unity and the holding of the Kurdistan National Congress, sought by Leader Apo, will be the best response to the policies of the enemies of the Kurdish people.

We also call on all Kurdish media outlets to assume their national and historical responsibilities, to be a voice for freedom and Kurdish unity, and not to be drawn into the policies of the enemies of the Kurdish people.”
