Based on the Law on Licensing Political Parties in the Democratic Autonomous Administration DAA issued by Decree No. 6 dated 5/20/2018, the Political Parties Affairs Committee set a deadline for unlicensed political parties and entities to review the committee’s office in the period extending from 3/7/until to submit applications for a license to practice work to the Party Affairs Committee.

The co-chair of the Political Parties Affairs Committee in Jazira canton, and the co-chair of the Democratic Peoples’ Council in Jazira canton, Hikmat Habib, confirmed their approval of the request to grant a license to the Kurdish Progressive Democratic Party in Syria, the Syria Reform Movement, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party in West Kurdistan.

Hikmat Habib explained that some political parties and forces from outside the regions of North and East Syria have submitted licensing applications for the Democratic Autonomous Administration, in order to open offices within the region.

The deadline set by the Political Parties Affairs Committee for political parties and forces to submit license applications expired on April 1, but Hikmat said: “We gave another opportunity for political parties and forces to submit license applications.”

Habib stated that the Political Parties Affairs Committee held a meeting two days ago, and said: “Some political parties have contacted us and will submit license applications in the next stage.”

Habib stressed: “We have not closed the way for political forces and parties that wish to submit licensing applications, and the field is open during the period, and this decision was taken by the Political Parties Affairs Committee.”

Habib indicated that there are approximately 30 parties that have not submitted license applications, and he said: “Some of them are carrying out their activities, and another section has not been carrying out their activities. There are parties that are carrying out their activities, have received previous approvals and promised that they will submit license applications during the next stage. These also have a chance, and even those that have “It will be established or formed in the next stage and will have an opportunity to submit applications.”

According to the documented and official statistics we obtained, 43 political parties and forces out of 71 parties have obtained a license to practice political work from the Political Parties Affairs Committee of the Democratic Autonomous Administration so far.
