people of Tal Brak condemn international silence about brutal attacks

The people of the city of Tal Brak in al-Jazira canton in North and East Syria condemned the international silence regarding the attacks that targeted the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo, and the accompanying violations against civilians, including abuse and mutilation of corpses, calling on international powers to assume their responsibilities in protecting the components and maintaining civil peace.

In this context, the co-chair of the Democratic Union Party office in Tal Brak, Ivan Suleiman, confirmed that what the mercenaries of the interim government committed against civilians in the neighborhoods of Aleppo constitutes a real and systematic aggression against humanity, stressing that these practices proved that they are “an organization that carries an ISIS ideology and has no connection to an army or revolutionaries seeking to build a democratic Syria.”

Suleiman added, asking: “Where are the human rights advocates in the world? Have they become blind or are they complicit in these massacres?” He considered that international silence amounts to participation in crimes committed against children, women, and the elderly, in two neighborhoods in which various components, the Kurds, Arabs, and others, have lived for hundreds of years.

For his part, Tal Brak City Council member, Muhammad Al-Hassan, condemned the international silence towards what happened in Aleppo, demanding the protection of civilians in the Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods, and ensuring the protection of the rights of all components, in a way that contributes to maintaining civil peace and preventing the escalation of violations.

In turn, the co-chair of the Agriculture Foundation in the city of Tal Brak, Nada Pahlavi, expressed her strong condemnation and denunciation of the attacks that targeted the two neighborhoods, stressing that their residents resisted until the last breath. She wondered about the reasons for international silence despite the crimes that occurred, and recalled the scene of throwing the body of a member of the Internal Security Forces after her resistance and martyrdom, a scene that has not yet moved the feelings of international forces and human rights organizations.

These positions come in light of the escalation of popular and official demands in northern and eastern Syria, for the necessity of urgent international intervention to stop any massacre or mass murder against civilians, secure their exit, and ensure that the perpetrators of crimes do not escape accountability.
