The attacks, heavy shelling, and targeting of civilians in the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zaid in the city of Aleppo sparked widespread condemnation.

In this context, Sheikh Akram Al-Mahshoush, advisor to the Al-Jubour Tribe, gave statements to ANHA agency in which he held the Turkish occupation and the Syrian interim government responsible for what happened, speaking about violations against civilians and the absence of any real accountability.

The advisor to the Al-Jubour Tribe said: “When we speak of authority, there must be a real authority. Today, the attacks that targeted Sheikh Maqsoud were Turkish-decided, ISIS-style attacks carried out by factions affiliated with them. The Syrian authority stood by as a spectator and did not consider itself responsible for Syrians.”

The interim government is a tool in Turkey’s hand, and ISIS mercenaries have become officials within it

He added: “The decision and the attack were Turkish, and the Syrian authority is a tool in its hand. Where is Syrian sovereignty in the face of Turkey’s and ISIS’s attacks? Previously, we were at war with ISIS, and today they have turned into officials within this government.”

He continued: “Wars and street fighting may occur, but assaulting civilians, mutilating bodies, and chanting religious slogans alongside it is a violation of God’s sanctity. What is happening is condemned by us as tribes. Killing civilians in the name of protecting civilians is unacceptable. These violations occurred by Turkish orders, carried out by ISIS mercenaries, with the Syrian authority acting as an execution tool.”

Al-Mahshoush pointed out that “on the fourth of January of this year, the Syrian authority sold the Golan to Israel, then came to kill Syrians in two neighborhoods of Aleppo. This authority and Turkey had calculations and plans for these attacks targeting Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh.”

Shame on all Syrians

He concluded by saying: “There is no innocent Syrian regarding these attacks. This is a shame on the government and a shame on all Syrians. Syrian officials bear responsibility for the Turkish decisions that led them to kill the sons of Syria and mutilate their bodies.”
