Nisreen Rashko, representative of the Teachers' Union of North and East Syria, met with Education International (EI) officials at the organization's headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, to enhance cooperation and build strategic partnerships that support the education sector and federal work in North and East Syria.
The meeting included the Education International's International Communication Group, chaired by Dominique Marlet, the organization's Human Rights and Trade Union Rights Officer, and Dalila Al-Barhami, Regional Coordinator for Arab Countries.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed mechanisms for building stronger communication bridges between the union and international organizations, as well as highlighting the challenges facing teachers and educational institutions in the region and the importance of international support in this context
They also discussed the Teachers' Union's vision for the state of education in Syria and ways to develop it in light of the current situation, as well as proposals for future projects that could be implemented in partnership between the two sides.
At the conclusion of the visit, an expanded meeting was held between the Union's representative and Education International Secretary-General David Edwards, who affirmed the organization's commitment to supporting education in NE Syria. He announced Education International's intention to organize a series of meetings with relevant international organizations, primarily UNICEF and UNESCO, with the aim of expanding support for the education system and strengthening union activity in the region.
