Most important achievements of women in NE Syria in 2023

Women's organizations and movements in NE Syria made great efforts to organize women in all fields, raise awareness of their rights and restore them on the one hand, and struggled to achieve physical freedom for leader Abdullah Ocalan through local and regional conferences and forums on the other hand. Here are the most important:

Courses

Believing in the necessity of women's organizations in NE Syria to rid society of the patriarchal (male) mentality, many awareness and educational courses were organized in this context.

-Kongra Star opened in Shabha, the Martyr Karker Çiya Academy.

Kongra Star opened 14 training courses, attended by 285 men.

Throughout the year, Kongra Star opened 109 courses, to which 1,560 women joined, and 22 closed courses were opened, to which 265 women joined.

A series of awareness and educational lectures was held on ways to eliminate the prevailing masculine mentality in society, in the Cantons of Jazera, Euphrates, Shahba and Aleppo, amounting to 2 thousand and 957 lectures.

The number of marches and demonstrations organized by Kongra Star reached 263 marches and demonstrations in the Cantons of Jazera, Euphrates, Shahba and Aleppo, in addition to holding 1,151 meetings and making 32 statements.

January 8; The Sara Organization for Combating Violence against Women opened a branch in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood in the city of Aleppo, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the First Paris Massacre.

January 14; The annual meeting of the Women's Council for Social Justice was held in Deir ez-Zor.

From February 15 to April 4, the Women’s Ecological Platform Rojava, launched a campaign with the aim of protecting and preserving the environment.

February 16; Women in NE Syria wrote about 11,000 letters to Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

March 4; The Local Administration and Environment Body in NE Syria, in coordination with the Women’s Coordination for North and East Syria and the Jineloji Research Center, organized a forum on women and their role in the Local Administration and Environment Body in NE Syria.

March 7; The People's Municipality opened the Women's Park in the Çil Agha district of Jazera Canton.

March 8; The statue of the hardworking Euphrates woman was unveiled in the middle of the Al-Atfaiya in the center of Raqqa city on International Women’s Day.

The joint events platform for women’s movements and organizations in NE Syria held 901 lectures, attended by 11,707 people, during the events held on the occasion of March 8 (International Women’s Day).

May 15, opening of the Martyr Zeinab Sarukhan Academy in Hasaka Canton.

May 23; Publication of the first issue of (Women’s Horizons) magazine.

July 6; The Zenobia Women's Association transformed its 4 offices in Raqqa, Manbij, Tabqa, and Deir ez-Zor into councils, during the second conference held in Raqqa.

July 8; The General Women's Council of the Future Syria Party announced the launch of a political and social awareness campaign on how to establish the concept of equal life between men and women, and to combat all forms of violence against women, for a month and a half.

August 1; The Council of the Zenobia Women's Association in Raqqa, Tabqa, Deir ez-Zor, and Manbij launched a campaign, “Together to protect our society and achieve safety,” as part of awareness efforts against the scourge of drugs and the phenomenon of underage marriage, it lasted 2 months, and the number of meetings and lectures held in this framework reached 113 meetings and lectures.

September 13; Jineloji magazine was published in Turkish and Persian.

October 4; Jineloji research academies were opened in NE Syria, Aleppo.

October 18; The Young Women's Union in North and East Syria organized the Union's first dialogue forum, with the participation of about 100 people.

October 31; The Women's Council of the Democratic Union Party announced the launch of the fourth phase of its activities to combat violence against women.

On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (November 25), the joint activities platform for women’s movements and organizations in NE Syria held 655 lectures, attended by 12,399 people.

Culture and Art

Crescent Zerin Movement for Women’s Culture in North and East Syria opened an intellectual course at the level of North and East Syria with the participation of 24 members.

March 1; In the colors of spring and women, the eighth Women’s Arts and Literature Festival was held under the slogan “Women, Life, Freedom” in Jazera Canton.

March 2; Crescent Zerin Movement for Women’s Culture in North and East Syria opened a center in Raqqa.

July 23; The Young Women's Union organized the Martyr Nojian Ocalan Sports Festival in Raqqa Canton.

September 16; The Martyr Ronahy Bawer Festival of Popular Dances was held in its sixth edition in the town of Rmelan in Jazera Canton.

September 29; Crescent Zerin Movement organized the third Children’s Festival in Aleppo.

The Young Women’s Union in North and East Syria held the Martyr Stervan Festival in its fourth session in North and East Syria during the period between (October 24 and November 22).

February 11; A British delegation visited the Kongra Star Center

February 11; At the invitation of the German University of Emden/Leer, a delegation from the Department of Jineloji at the Universities of Rojava and Kobani arrived in Germany

February 28; A delegation from NE Syria, including representatives of Kongra Star, participated in the conference held for Leader Abdullah Ocalan in North Africa

March 6; A Scottish delegation visited Kongra Star Center on the occasion of International Women's Day

March 9; A Belgian delegation visited the Kongra Star Center

March 12; A French delegation visited the Kongra Star Center

March 18; An international delegation of women visited southern Kurdistan for the purpose of researching the slogan "Women, Life, Freedom."

April 2; A delegation consisting of members of the French Parliament visited the Kongra Star Center

April 23; At the initiative of the Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement, a conference entitled “With Women, Life, Freedom, Towards a Women’s Revolution” was held in Şengal District.

May 30; Representatives of Kongra Star met with the US Deputy Secretary of State.

June 13, Kongra Star joined the conference “Together for a Democratic Middle East - The Path to Peace,” held in Lebanon.

June 25; Opening of the Science, Research and Archive Center of the Kurdish Women’s Library in Sulaymaniyah.

July 16; A delegation from Catalonia visited the K.Star Center.

July 27; Jinelojiya camp opened in the Basque Country, Spain.

August 2; A delegation from Kongra Star in Europe joined a festival organized in Morocco.

August 12; At the initiative of the Yazidi Women's Freedom Movement (TAJÊ), a women's conference was held in the city of Sulaymaniyah in southern Kurdistan.

August 18; A delegation from Kongra Star visited the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.

August 18-19; The women's conference was held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in the presence of 80 activists from Arab and African countries, and a delegation from the Democratic Autonomous Administration in NE Syria and Şengal .

September 15; A delegation from the Kongra Star representation in Europe and Lebanon visited Egypt.

October 18; A delegation from Kongra Star visited Egypt.

The Women's Protection Units (YPJ) managed, on different dates, according to what the Yazidi House stated, to liberate 4 Yazidi women who were kidnapped by ISIS mercenaries in 2014.

Conferences

February 2; The Young Women's Union in Jazera Canton held its third conference in Qamishlo, under the slogan, "With the spirit of Nojiyan and Viyan youth, we will win the battle for freedom."

February 18; The Young Women's Union in North and East Syria held a conference on the international conspiracy against leader Ocalan.

May 30; The Zenobia Women's Gathering in the Deir ez-Zor countryside held its first conference.

June 1; The Council of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering in Manbij and its countryside held its first conference, and on the 5th of the same month, the Council of the Zenobia Women’s Gathering in Tabqa and its countryside held its first conference.

June 10; The Young Women's Union held the "Young Women's Conference for the Leader" at the level of NE Syria.

July 6; The second conference of the Zenobia Women’s Group was held in Raqqa.

July 14; The Community Protection Unites - Women held its second conference in NE Syria.

 August 2; The second conference was held for the Women’s House in NE Syria.

August 7; A women's forum was held to support the women of Şengal and Afghanistan, in the hall of Al-Sharq University in Raqqa.

August 25; The second conference of the Women’s Council of the Martyrs’ Families in North and East Syria was held.

November 15; A tribal women’s forum was held in Raqqa.

December 1; The second conference of the Yazidi Women’s Union was held in the city of Aleppo.

Economically

February 20; The Economics Committee of the Zenobia Women's Gathering launched a campaign to plant about 4,500 grape trees in Raqqa.

 February 24; The Women's Coordination in the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee of the Executive Council of the Tabqa Civil Administration completed a greenhouse and agricultural nursery project.

From (1-7) March; The Women's Office in the Democratic Society Movement, within the "Jiyan" project, planted 3,800 fruit trees in Derik and the Semalka and Al-Walid border crossings

November 23; The Women's Committee opened a women's sewing workshop in Al-Darbasiyah district of Hasaka Canton..
