MJS rejects new constitutional declaration: New era of exclusion
The Syrian Women's Council (MJS) statement says that the declaration "grants absolute powers" that return the country to before the "zero point," which contradicts the principles of justice and equal citizenship.

In a statement, the Council emphasized that the declaration "undermines any opportunity to build a just and inclusive Syria," noting that it perpetuates a "patriarchal" mindset behind exclusionary and discriminatory policies. The statement further added: "This declaration ignores the contributions of Syrian women in the long struggle against dictatorship, representing a systematic injustice that is incompatible with the aspirations of women to actively participate in the nation-building process."
The Council criticized the declaration for failing to "meet the standards of national diversity" and for not safeguarding women's rights and identities. It asserted that it would not serve as a "social contract" protecting the identities and affiliations of all citizens, whether male, female, or from the various components of Syrian society.
The statement warned that the constitutional declaration "deprives the constitution of its legitimacy and national and democratic substance," considering it a reflection of the transitional government’s insistence on imposing a "monolithic" vision once again, thereby isolating and undermining the genuine participation of all Syrians.
The Syrian Women's Council concluded its statement by reaffirming its complete rejection of the constitutional declaration, deeming it "in direct contradiction to the principles of justice and equal citizenship" sought by every citizen in Syria.
The Council called for a constitution that reflects the aspirations of the Syrian people and guarantees the rights of all its components, including women.
