Mass rally in Tabqa commemorates Resistance Day, demands leader's freedom

On Thursday, residents of Tabqa canton, along with displaced people from Afrin and Shahba, held a massive rally to commemorate the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) (National Resistance Day) and to reaffirm their demand for the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Thousands of residents and displaced people from the canton participated in the rally, along with representatives of the Democratic Autonomous Administration and its affiliated bodies and councils, as well as the canton's security and military forces, in a display of unity and determination to continue the struggle.

The rally began in front of the Sports Stadium camp on the outskirts of Tabqa city. The participants carried pictures of leader Abdullah Ocalan and banners of "With the peoples' fraternity, we will liberate leader Abdullah Ocalan" and "With the peoples' solidarity, we will break the chains of Imrali and free leader Apo" written on.

The participants chanted slogans of "No Life Without the Leader" and "Long Live the Resistance in Imrali."

Upon reaching the Martyrs' Families Council in the second neighborhood of Tabqa city, the marchers held a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs. This was followed by a speech delivered by Mahmoud al-Sayel, the co-chair of the Martyrs' Families Council in Tabqa canton.

In his speech, al-Sayel stated, "On the anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), National Resistance Day, we congratulate ourselves and the leader who founded this movement. Today, we reaffirm our demand for the freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan after 27 years of isolation in Imrali, an isolation that contradicts human values and international standards."

Al-Sayel added, "The demand for the leader's freedom is not limited to physical freedom alone; it embodies a democratic ideology that calls for peace and equality, and for the liberation of women and society as a whole." He also called upon international and human rights organizations to fulfill their responsibilities in this matter and to work towards achieving the leader's physical freedom.

For her part, Alif Mohamed, speaking on behalf of the displaced people of Afrin, said, "The birth of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is the birth of life, humanity, and democracy. It is the epic of the 21st century, the era of women and youth freedom, and the project of a democratic nation."

She emphasized that "the freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan is inextricably linked to the project of peace and a democratic society. No solution can be reached without the freedom of the leader and the freedom of the peoples yearning for liberation."

The march concluded with the participants affirming their commitment to escalating the struggle until the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan is achieved.
