On Thursday, the residents of Martyr Rustom Judi Camp (Makhmour) began a sit-in against the siege, arrests, and the restrictive measures imposed on the camp. They are also protesting the increasing pressure and threats from the Baghdad government against the camp’s inhabitants and demanding the release of the Makhmour People’s Council delegation detained in the Iraqi capital.

In response to the residents' resistance, Iraqi forces informed them that they intended to release the detained delegation. However, until now, the Iraqi government has not fulfilled its promises. In this context, the protesters announced that they would continue their sit-in for the second day in a row in front of the Iraqi army checkpoint.

Last night saw several protest activities that continued late into the night and are still ongoing today with determination and persistence.

Makhmour Camp, which had previously been besieged by the Kurdistan Democratic Party, is now facing a new siege imposed by Iraqi forces since April 10. They have been preventing the entry of food supplies into the camp, stopping workers from reaching their workplaces, and refusing to renew the residents’ ID cards and personal documents.
