Macron discusses developments in Syria in phone calls with Abdi, al-Shara

The Élysée Palace announced that French President Emmanuel Macron held two phone calls with Syria’s Interim Government Prime Minister Ahmad Al-Shara and the Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, during which they discussed ongoing developments in the region.

The Élysée stated that Macron, as part of intensified mediation efforts in recent weeks, welcomed the permanent ceasefire agreement reached between the Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, emphasizing the need for its full implementation and reaffirming France’s full commitment to supporting this process.

The French president also stressed his country’s and its partners’ strong determination to continue combating ISIS, in line with the security interests of France, the region, Europe, and the United States.

The statement noted that France will continue, in coordination with its partners, to support Syria and the Syrian people on the path toward stability, justice, and reconstruction, aiming for a Syria that enjoys peace, respects all its communities, particularly the Kurdish population and plays an active role in countering terrorism.
