Lebanese Army withdraws from forward positions along border with Israel

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, the army relocated several of its positions from the immediate border line with Israel to alternative points for redeployment.

Reuters reported that the withdrawal included at least seven frontline operational posts along the border.

A Lebanese official told Reuters that Israeli forces carried out incursions into parts of the Lebanese frontier, while continuing extensive sweeping operations from Israeli positions on Talat Hamams toward Khiam and the Marjayoun plain. Intermittent shelling has persisted on the areas of Khiam, Houla, and the highlands beneath Beaufort Castle.

Earlier, Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee announced that the army had begun reinforcing what he described as the “forward defense” of northern towns, as part of the 91st Division’s deployment at strategic points in southern Lebanon, in parallel with ongoing operations under the campaign titled “Lion’s Roar.”

The statement said the Israeli army is working to establish an additional security layer to protect residents in the north through large-scale airstrikes targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, aiming to prevent any infiltration attempts into Israeli territory.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the army had been instructed to “advance and seize control” of new strategic positions in Lebanon following Hezbollah’s strikes on northern Israel.

Katz affirmed that the military would continue taking all necessary measures to defend citizens, holding Hezbollah responsible for the consequences of the escalation and pointing to Iran’s role in directing the group’s activities.

On Monday, Adraee announced that the Israeli Navy carried out a strike targeting an area in Beirut, resulting in the killing of Reza Khazai, whom the statement described as responsible for Hezbollah’s “military build-up file” on behalf of the Quds Force and as Chief of Staff of the Lebanon Corps.

The statement added that Khazai oversaw extensive arms coordination between Hezbollah and Iran, including the transfer of Iranian weapons and equipment, as well as plans for local weapons production inside Lebanon and the reconstruction of facilities damaged in previous operations.

This morning, Israeli forces conducted airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs, targeting the Al-Nour radio building affiliated with Hezbollah. Spokesperson Avichay Adraee issued warnings to residents of Haret Hreik, Ghobeiry, and surrounding areas, urging them to evacuate buildings within at least 300 meters of Hezbollah facilities for their safety.
