Lebanese activist sends message of solidarity to YPJ

The Lebanese activist and spokesman for the Noon Initiative of the Freedom of Leader Ocalan, Sawsan Shoman, announced her solidarity with the struggle of the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), calling on women's, human rights and academic organizations to stand by the units in obtaining their rights and officially recognizing them.

In a letter to the Women's Protection Units, she said: “I am Sawsan Shoman from wounded Lebanon, I declare my solidarity with the struggle of women fighters in the Women's Protection Units (YPJ), who have made great sacrifices in the face of terrorism and defense of human dignity and freedom of societies.”

Sawsan Shoman pointed out that the experience of female fighters in the Women's Protection Units has proven that the defense of land and freedom is not the propoly of one gender over another, but a right and a shared responsibility.

Attempts to exclude women from this role, or to deny their right to participate in official institutions, represent a serious retreat from the principles of justice and equality for which the peoples of the region have fought.

Sawsan Shoman expressed her full support for women's right to engage in all spheres of life, including the sphere of defence, stressing that recognition of the role of the Women's Protection Units is a recognition of women's struggle against violence and extremism, and their right to self-determination.

She also called on all women's, human rights and academic organizations, along with free individuals, to raise their voices loudly in order to ensure the full and equal participation of women in all institutions of society.

Her message concluded by stressing her solidarity with women's women's protection units, praising women's struggles for freedom and dignity.
