"Leader's freedom is an extension of women's freedom, struggle"

On Sunday, in Qamishlo city of Jazira canton, women gathered in front of the Women's House in the Western neighborhood to deliver a statement demanding the immediate release of the leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The statement, read by the administrator of the Women's House, Bahiyya Suleiman, and with the participation of members of the House and the Kongra Star, stated: "The physical freedom is a fundamental right guaranteed by international conventions, most notably the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Standards for the Treatment of Prisoners."

It stated that "the continued denial of Ocalan's right constitutes a flagrant violation of these conventions and an open wound in the conscience of humanity."

The statement added, "The leader Abdullah Ocalan dedicated his life to defending the dignity of peoples and their right to freedom and democracy, and made his ideas a beacon of hope and inspiration for millions of people."

It stressed that his continued detention "not only constitutes a legal violation, but also constitutes an obstacle to any serious path towards peace and stability in the region."

The statement called for "the immediate release of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the unconditional guarantee of his physical freedom."

It called on the United Nations, the European Union, and the European Court of Human Rights to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, and work to end this historical injustice."

The statement emphasized that the leader Abdullah Ocalan's freedom is "an extension of women's freedom," and that the struggle for his release is a struggle for life and for the philosophy of "Woman - Life - Freedom."

It also emphasized that the issue of women is "a humanitarian issue that concerns all of humanity and represents a crucial step towards establishing a just and lasting peace in the region."

The statement concluded by calling on the international community to take urgent action to secure the leader Abdullah Ocalan's release because "his freedom is the path to justice."
