2,541 Syrian figures demand to meet leader Ocalan

The Syrian Initiative for the Leader Abdullah Ocalan's Freedom and the Syrian Lawyers' Initiative for the Defense of the Leader Abdullah Ocalan revealed the results of the campaign they launched on August 20 and continued until September 10. The statement was read in front of the building of the Syrian Initiative for the Leader Abdullah Ocalan's Freedom in Qamishlo city, in Jazira canton of North and East Syria.

The statement was read in the presence of members of the Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Syrian Lawyers' Initiative for the Defense of Leader Abdullah Ocalan by Jean Arkandi and Ahin Haidar.

The statement included,

"To the public opinion

Based on the historic call for peace and a democratic society, launched by Abdullah Ocalan on February 27, a sincere call to consolidate the values ​​of democracy, peace, and co-existence among peoples, the European Forum for Freedom and Peace launched an international campaign under the slogan "I Want to Meet Abdullah Ocalan."

On August 20, the Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Syrian Lawyers' Initiative for the Defense of Leader Abdullah Ocalan responded to this call by launching a comprehensive campaign under the same slogan, covering various provinces in northern and eastern Syria, as well as many other Syrian cities. The campaign was widely acclaimed and brought together a diverse range of actors; human rights activists, academics, politicians, intellectuals, tribal leaders, clerics, doctors, engineers, as well as representatives of Syria's various ethnic and religious groups, including Kurds, Arabs, Syriacs, Assyrians, Armenians, Yazidis, Turkmen, and Circassians, as well as various Islamic sects (Sunnis, Alawites, Ismailis, and Druze). Moreover, a number of prominent figures from Damascus, Aleppo, Latakia, Tartus, Homs, Daraa, Quneitra, Sweida, and Idlib also joined the campaign.

On the occasion of the International Day of Peace of 2025, which falls on September 21st and is held this year under the slogan "Act Now for a Peaceful World," we are pleased to announce to the public that the campaign concluded its activities on September 10th, with the participation of 2,541 people from various segments of society.

The results of this campaign, accompanied by an official letter, will be submitted to the following relevant international bodies:

• Secretary-General of the United Nations

• European Committee for the Prevention of Torture

• Presidency of the Council of the European Union

• Human Rights Council – United Nations

• Minister of Justice of the Republic of Turkey

Issuing this statement, we affirm that our demand falls within the framework of fundamental human rights, foremost among which is the right to freedom, peace, and justice. We hope that this appeal will receive serious and responsible attention from the relevant parties, in accordance with the principles of international law and UN conventions."
