Kurds in Lebanon mark anniversary of July 19 Revolution

Kurds in Lebanon held an event in Beirut to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the July 19 Revolution, which began in the city of Kobani in 2012. During the event, a statement was read recalling the key milestones of the revolution, honoring the sacrifices of the martyrs, and reaffirming the commitment to continue the struggle for freedom, justice, and the rights of peoples.

The event opened with holding a minute of silence, followed by the reading of the statement, which described the July 19 Revolution as a historic decisive point in the journey of the Kurdish people and the peoples of Rojava. It said the revolution laid the foundations for a democratic model based on autonomous administration, pluralism, equality, and peaceful co-existence among the region's diverse ethnic, religious, and cultural communities.

The statement added that, despite years of war, blockade, and continued attacks, the revolution has demonstrated the ability of peoples to defend their will and shape their own future. It also said the experience has reinforced the values of democracy, social justice, and respect for diversity as the fundamental pillars of building a society founded on security, stability, and peace.

The statement also underscored the pioneering role played by women in the revolution through their active participation across various spheres of struggle, as well as social and political life, and their contribution to building a model that promotes equality, justice, and genuine partnership.

Through their statement, Kurds in Lebanon reaffirmed their solidarity with the Kurdish people and all the communities of Rojava, renewing their support for efforts aimed at achieving a democratic political solution that guarantees the rights of all Syrians, secures the legitimate national rights of the Kurdish people, and upholds human dignity and freedom.

They also called on the international community to assume its responsibilities in protecting stability in the region, ending all forms of violence targeting civilians, and supporting initiatives that foster peace, dialogue, and co-existence among peoples.

The statement concluded by affirming that the July 19 Revolution will remain a symbol of the determination of free peoples in the face of tyranny and a pioneering experience in building a pluralistic democratic society founded on justice and equality. It also renewed the commitment to continue the struggle in defense of the values of freedom, dignity, and peace.
