The Kurdistan Women's Community (KJK) issued a written statement on Thursday (March 19), on the occasion of Newroz, commemorating historical symbols of resistance and addressing the current political process. The statement emphasized that Newroz symbolizes freedom, resistance, and revival, and highlights the importance of the struggle led by women.

The statement included, "The Newroz movement, launched by Leader Abdullah Ocalan in opposition to the patriarchal system that has persisted throughout history and to this day, has left a profound mark over fifty-two years of struggle. It has brought peace and freedom not only to the Kurdish people, but also to the peoples of the Middle East and the world, becoming a historical and social voice for all the oppressed." It further stated that Leader Abdullah Ocalan, as a modern-day Prometheus, continues to renew himself daily, illuminating the path of humanity like the sun. Despite the conditions of isolation and torture in Imrali prison, he still maintains the flame of resistance and freedom that Kawa ignited against the tyranny of Dahak in the Zagros Mountains for the sake of women and the people, drawing inspiration from the spirit of freedom rooted in the story of Mem and Zin.

The statement affirmed that the present moment is a moment of liberation from the tragic history of genocides and from the inevitable fate imposed on the Kurds and peoples, and continued, "In a time when the brutal wars of capitalism plunge humanity into utter darkness, the call of Leader Abdullah Ocalan for peace and a democratic society allows humanity to witness the flourishing of hope for the free life it longs for. In these lands, the cradle of humanity, social interaction, freedoms and beauty, the history of spring, enlightenment and renaissance is being written, to replace the harsh winter that humanity has suffered."

"The only option is the free life"

The statement emphasized that rebirth, in its magical form and the philosophy of Jin, Jiyan, Azadî, is a birth of a free life, the embodiment of women for Newroz, and the reality of a people and society acquired identity, self-organization, autonomy, and willpower. It affirmed, "We celebrate and commemorate Newroz for Leader Ocalan, who, through the philosophy of Jin, Jiyan, Azadî, has given us the opportunity to be pioneers in reshaping humanity and to experience the honor of doing so. For us, women, there is only one option for life: the option of a free life. We say that the time has come to transform this opportunity for a free life, born with Leader Abdullah Ocalan, into a national, global, and regional women’s solidarity movement, to achieve a vital social renaissance, and to guarantee the physical freedom of the leader."

The organization added in its statement: "Our path towards freedom and the Newroz holiday, led by Kurdish women, faces the task of representing the struggle for a free life and a free society, which originated in women's history and was embodied in the Rojava women's revolution, at the highest level. Our struggle, which began with the Renaissance and grew through resistance, has acquired a global reality with the struggle to build a cooperative society, a symbol of rebirth. The level of organization of the cooperative society system will bring us, women and peoples, closer to a free life. The glorious return of women to a free life through their organizational strength will be a rebirth for society. Let us make this Newroz, which symbolizes the coming of spring and renewal, the Newroz of building a new life by establishing our democratic cooperative societies, under the leadership of Leader Abdullah Ocalan. Let us make Kurdistan the gateway to democratic socialism in the world, especially in the Middle East, by implementing the gains we have achieved through the struggle of our people and our women by building cooperative societies."

"Let's make 2026 the year of victory"

The statement confirmed that Newroz should be an occasion to transform the flame of freedom into a unifying force for women, peoples, and all the oppressed against their oppressors. This flame, representing the Kurdish people's ability to rise must never be extinguished. The spirit of unity inherent in Newroz, which has led to victory for thousands of years, is embodied today by the martyred comrade Ahmed Heimn. With this spirit of national belonging, let this year's Newroz be a national and democratic celebration, expressing the will of the people and their aspiration for freedom. The statement continued: "Let's make this year's Newroz a victory for securing the physical freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, and let 2026 be a year of victory for women, youth, and the Kurdish people in their struggle to unite with their leader."

The statement called upon all those who cherish a dignified life and insist on their humanity in the face of injustice and male tyranny to transform Newroz into a wellspring and dance of freedom, an era of a free life with Leader Abdullah Ocalan. To achieve this, everyone must flock to the Newroz celebrations, proclaim democracy, and launch the struggle that will guarantee the physical freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan. It added: "We will celebrate the acts of freedom performed by all the women who rose up, filling the squares by the hundreds of thousands. We hope and celebrate Eid al-Fitr, which revives the culture of solidarity and harmony in the Islamic world, and that it will be an occasion for peace, brotherhood, and freedom throughout the world. We call for embracing the call for peace and a democratic society in the face of the wars and conflicts instigated between peoples, religions, and cultures, and for building a good homeland in these lands, the cradle of the mosaic of cultures. We will celebrate Newroz, in which millions of people fill the squares with enthusiasm to radically change the history of wars, massacres, genocides, capitalism, and the obsolescence of the nation-state, and to rebuild history in favor of a democratic society based on the liberation of women. We say that freedom will be achieved with Leader Abdullah Ocalan."
